Rooting Marshmallow devices could be a pain in the ass, but thanks to Team Hovatek its much more simpler and easier, as they have successfully rooted the Gionee M5 Mini Marshmallow via CWM recovery.
Before proceeding with this guide, ensure your build number (Settings > About phone > Build number) is as follows

- Install VCOM drivers on your PC using https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-440.html
- Download SuperSu 2.78.zip Here
- Copy SuperSU.zip to both the phone’s SD card and internal storage
- Download CWM for Gionee M5 Mini Marshmallow ported by Team Hovatek at Here
- Switch off the phone (still with battery inside
- Backup your current firmware using the guide @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-13347.html
- Copy the preloader.bin from your firmware dump to the same folder as the CWM recovery image (ensure to replace any previous preloader.bin file)
- Flash both the preloader.bin and CWM recovery.bin to the phone using Miracle Box @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-14106.html
- Boot the phone into recovery mode using Volume up button + Power button
- In CWM recovery, you use the Volume buttons to navigate and Power button to select
- Scroll down to select install zip and Click it.
- Select choose zip /storage/sdcard1
- Navigate to the locate of SuperSU and select it.
- Select yes- Install SuperSU to gain root on your device.
- If you are prompted to fix root, select No
- Reboot the phone normally
- Confirm Root by installing and running Root Checker
