This new update brings a numbers of new additions to this already amazing messaging and calling platform. Users will not only be able to enjoy improved control over their messaging options, but they will also be able to access more emojis while messaging as well as cut on the amount of data used when making WhatsApp calls.
Custom options for WhatsApp notifications have been there for some time now. However, they only worked for the whole app in general. WhatsApp is now bringing this ability to individual chats and groups where users can set specific notification tones, ringtones, vibration, lights and others just for a certain group or individual. This means that you can select a favorite song from your playlist to work as your ringtone or message notification.
To access the custom notifications options, select a contact and on the menu options, select “View contact.” From there, you can make changes to whatever you want.

Mute individual chats
Until this update came out, WhatsApp users were only able to mute conversations involving groups. However, the new update takes this to the next level as it allows users to mute conversations of individual chats. This is easy. Just open your contact list and tap on the name of the person you want to mute their chats and then select “View contact.” Once this window is open, slide the Mute bar towards the right, and you will get predefined periods for which the chat will remain muted. It can be 8 hours, one week or maybe one year.
Low data usage during WhatsApp calling
WhatsApp calls were introduced earlier this year and for sure, this feature has led to massive numbers joining this platform. If you use this feature regularly, you can smile a bit as the app has added a new setting in the Chats and calls option where users can choose to lower the amount of data used during WhatsApp calling. When this option is checked, a small amount of data will be in use during calls.
Brand new emojis and more skin tone variations
The latest WhatsApp 2.12.250 for Android also brings a bunch of new emojis on this platform. The much talked-about Vulcan salute finally makes its way to this platform, and it brings along with it other emojis as well. Users can now make use of the infamous middle-finger emoji as well as enjoy the newly introduced LGBT emojis.
WhatsApp for Android has been refurbished with new skin tone variations for emojis. Users can now apply up to six colors when chatting with emojis.
Mark messages as read/unread
The ability to mark messages as read or unread has long been there in email clients such as Gmail. However, it has finally made its way to the messaging platform, and it has done so with the most popular messaging app – WhatsApp.
When a message comes in, you can decide to mark it as read without actually opening it to read it. Similarly, you can open and read a message and decide to mark it as unread. Once you mark an unread message as read, the sender will be notified that you have read the message yet in real sense you haven’t.
